Infant
paneled skirt (can use any cylinder, I used a 54)
Cast
on 40 needles in scrap yarn. You will be working back and forth, so use heel
spring.
1.
In working yarn, Knit 4 rows.
2.
Work same as a heel down to hash marks on cylinder; put needles back into
work same as for a heel. Knit 4
rows. Rehang hem.
3.
Starting with needle 2, move stitch to next needle hanging 2 onto 3, 4
onto 5, 6 onto 7, etc all the way across. Knit
2 rows.
4.
Starting with needle 3, move stitch to next needle hanging 3 onto 4, 5
onto 6, 7 onto 8, etc. all the way across.
Knit 2 rows.
5.
Repeat #3.
6.
Repeat #4 but continue for 20 rows.
7.
Decrease both ends of row. Knit
3 rows.
8.
Repeat until there are 14 needles left.
Knit 10 rows.
9.
Knit off on scrap yarn, replace needles that were removed and repeat
making panels until you have number needed for skirt.
On a small infant, 6 will do. I
used 8.
10.Sew
side seams of all panels together.
11.Turn
down top edge and sew across top 1/2" leaving space enough at the end to
allow inserting elastic or Icord.
12.
Make Icord and thread through waist portion.
13.
Work in ends.
14.
Wash and lay flat to dry or block with steam iron.
In
order to knit without removing work, I knitted a couple rows of scrap yarn at
the end of each piece, then hung a set-up on the needles that were replaced,
knitted 6 more rows of scrap yarn and started the next piece.
When the second piece is nearly finished, the work will be long enough to
enable removing the first set-up so it can be used again for the third panel.
